🏡Family-Owned, Lebanon NJ

When your leather jacket or coat needs repair, the question most people ask first is: who near me actually knows how to fix this properly? Not a dry cleaner who handles leather occasionally. Not a general tailor who will improvise with fabric techniques on a material that demands different skills entirely. You need a leather repair craftsman - someone who works in leather every day, understands how different leather types behave under repair conditions, and has the materials, dyes, and tools to produce a result that looks right.

At Lebanon Leather Work, leather jacket and coat repair is part of our core daily work. Our shop at 1271 US-22 in Lebanon, NJ serves clients from across Hunterdon, Somerset, Morris, Essex, Bergen, Hudson, and every other NJ county with specialist leather jacket repair that covers the full spectrum of damage: tears and cuts, broken or stuck zippers, failed lining, faded colour, cracked leather, scuffed panels, damaged hardware, and structural issues that compromise how the jacket fits or functions.

A quality leather jacket is a long-term wardrobe investment - often one of the most expensive and most personal items someone owns. Our Restore, Don't Replace philosophy means we treat every leather jacket or coat that comes to us as something worth saving, and we apply the care and skill that position demands

Every Type of Leather Jacket & Coat Damage -Repaired to Invisible

01-Leather Jacket Zipper Repair

A broken zipper on a leather jacket is one of the most common and most frustrating repair requests we receive - and one of the most satisfying to fix. We repair and replace zippers on all leather jackets and coats: stuck zippers, zippers that have come off the track, zippers with broken pulls, and zippers where the teeth have separated or failed. Where the zipper mechanism is repairable, we fix it. Where the zipper itself has failed, we source a matching replacement - matching the colour, weight, brand (YKK where specified), and style of the original, and installing it so the stitching around the zip channel matches the factory finish.

We replace zippers on jacket fronts, sleeve cuffs, pockets, collar zips, and lining access zips. No job is too minor - a stuck front zip that prevents you wearing your jacket is worth repairing for exactly what it costs to fix a zip.

02-Leather Jacket Lining Repair

The lining is the most structurally important interior component of a leather jacket - and the one that fails most often. Lining tears along seams, pulls away from the leather at the cuffs and hem, deteriorates along the shoulder seams under arm stress, and in older jackets simply breaks down with age. A failed lining makes a jacket uncomfortable to wear and accelerates wear on the leather interior surface.

We repair leather jacket linings at the seam level - re-stitching detached sections, patching torn panels, and re-bonding lining to leather at edges and cuffs using techniques appropriate to the lining material. Where the lining is beyond repair, we replace it entirely with a new lining matched in colour, weight, and material to the original - satin, polyester, quilted, or cotton, depending on the jacket and the client's preference. Full lining replacement gives a jacket a renewed interior that functions and feels like new.

03- Jacket & Coat Tear, Cut & Scratch Repair

Tears, cuts, punctures, and deep scratches on leather jackets and coats are repaired using a precision process that is invisible in normal wear. We back the damaged area from inside, fill the surface with flexible leather repair compound in thin, cured layers, restore the grain texture using matched grain pads, and apply colour-mixed dye to blend seamlessly with the surrounding leather.

Common jacket tear scenarios we handle: zipper area panel tears from forced opening, sleeve seam splits, shoulder abrasion from bag straps, collar edge cuts, elbow patch separation, and accidental cuts from sharp objects. Even long, clean cuts through the full thickness of leather can be repaired to a near-invisible result when handled correctly.

04- Colour Restoration & Re-Dye

Leather jackets fade faster than most leather products because they are worn outdoors exposed to UV, rain, body oils, and friction every time they are used. Faded shoulders, collar discolouration, lighter patches on high-friction zones, and overall loss of depth and richness are all addressable with professional leather jacket colour restoration.

We strip the degraded topcoat, prepare the surface, and apply custom-mixed dye formulated to match your jacket's original colour precisely. For full re-dye - changing a jacket's colour entirely - we can achieve this on most smooth-finish leather jackets, opening up the possibility of refreshing an old piece rather than replacing it.

05- Coat Repair & Restoration

Long leather coats - whether classic trench-length, mid-length, or statement fashion coats - require the same precision repairs as shorter jackets with the added challenge of larger surface areas and more complex structural elements: belt loops, buttoned fronts, wide lapels, and deep side pockets that receive heavy daily use.

We repair leather coats for tears at high-stress points (belt loop bases, pocket openings, hem edges), button and snap replacement, lapel edge repair, lining replacement, and full colour restoration. We also clean and condition leather coats professionally - a service frequently searched as "cleaners that clean leather coats near me" that most dry cleaners cannot safely provide but that Lebanon Leather Work offers as standard.

06- Cleaning & Conditioning

Regular clients often ask: "Where can I find cleaners that clean leather coats without damaging them?" The answer is not a standard dry cleaner. Standard dry-cleaning chemicals strip the natural oils from leather, causing premature cracking and surface deterioration. Professional leather cleaning uses pH-neutral cleaner specifically formulated for leather chemistry - removing embedded grime, body oils, surface residue, and light staining without affecting the leather's structural integrity.

Our leather jacket and coat cleaning service includes: pH-neutral deep clean, light conditioning treatment to replenish lost oils, protective topcoat refresh where the finish has dulled, and a final buff to restore surface lustre. We recommend a professional clean every 1–2 years for regularly worn leather jackets and annually for leather coats worn through NJ winters.

07- Hardware Repair - Snaps, Buckles & Studs

The hardware on a leather jacket - snaps, buckles, D-rings, studs, epaulette buttons, belt clips, and collar clasps - takes direct mechanical stress and fails over time. Loose snaps, broken buckle frames, pulled studs, and corroded hardware all affect both the function and appearance of the jacket.

We replace and restore leather jacket hardware using matching components: matching metal finish (gunmetal, antique brass, nickel, matte black), matching size, and matching attachment method. Where original hardware is unavailable as a replacement, we source the closest match and present options before fitting. Hardware replacement is typically a same-week service.

08- Jacket Stitching & Seam Repair

The stitching on a leather jacket is a structural element, not purely decorative - when seams blow, the jacket loses structural integrity at that point, and the damage tends to spread if not addressed. We re-stitch blown seams, repair broken decorative stitching lines, re-attach separated panels and reinforce high-stress seam areas using matching thread weight and colour. All stitching work is done with thread appropriate to leather: heavy-duty waxed or bonded polyester in the original stitch count and pattern.

09- Jacket Crack, Peel & Surface Repair

Cracking occurs on leather jackets when the leather dries out from infrequent conditioning, heat exposure, or storage in dry conditions. Surface peeling is more common on lower-grade bonded or PU leather jackets. Both are repairable. We fill cracks with flexible leather repair compound, rebuild the grain texture, and restore colour and topcoat to a flexible, durable finish that moves with the jacket. On heavily peeling faux-leather jackets, we assess whether a full re-surface or panel replacement produces a better result than patching and advise honestly before proceeding.
