A Craft Built on Passion. A Business Built on Trust.
Lebanon Leather Work was founded by Tamer Mourshed, a master craftsman who came to the United States from the Middle East in the 1980s and spent years working with some of the most respected names in the leather goods industry -including Coach and Lido Handbag. He didn't just learn leatherwork. He built a lifelong relationship with it.
Inspired by his wife Hala and their family, Tamer established Lebanon Leather Work with a clear purpose: to offer the kind of leather repair and craftsmanship that actually respects what you bring in. The kind of care that doesn't cut corners, doesn't hide problems, and doesn't send your piece back looking "okay" when it can look exceptional.
Today, Lebanon Leather Work is one of the most trusted leather repair and custom goods workshops in New Jersey. We've restored hundreds of leather items - from designer handbags and vintage briefcases to worn furniture and broken-in boots - and we approach every single one the same way: personally, transparently, and with a satisfaction guarantee behind the work.
Your Most Loved Leather Goods Deserve more Than a Replacement
At Lebanon Leather Work, our master craftsmen restore handbags, wallets, belts, jackets, and accessories back to their original condition - or better. We handle everything from simple zipper replacements to full leather reconditioning, working on all brands and leather types with equal care and precision. 1271 US-22, Lebanon, NJ 08833, USA, we serve clients from across Hunterdon, Somerset, Morris, and Warren counties. Walk-ins welcome for free repair assessments - no appointment necessary.

WHAT WE RESTORE
Every Type of Leather Repair - One Expert Shop in Lebanon, New Jersey
Our leather repair store in Lebanon, NJ handles every leather surface, every material type, and every product category. Browse our services below - each one is backed by over 20 years of master craftsmanship and a precision color-matching process that makes repairs invisible.
Leather upholstery - whether on a car seat, dining chair, or office sofa - develops cracks, tears, and color loss over time. Replacing it completely is expensive and often unnecessary. Our leather upholstery repair service restores upholstered pieces to their original look and feel, from patching visible cracks to resealing and color-matching damaged areas. We work on automotive interiors, commercial seating, and residential upholstery throughout New Jersey.
Shoe Repair
A quality pair of leather shoes can last a lifetime - but only if they're cared for properly. Whether you're dealing with worn-down soles, separating heels, broken stitching, or cracked leather uppers, our shoe repair service handles it with the precision the footwear deserves. We work on dress shoes, leather boots, loafers, and fashion footwear of all brands. Bring them in - we'll give you an honest assessment and a clear quote.
That cracked leather sofa or worn-out recliner is usually one professional repair away from looking like itself again. Our leather furniture repair service covers cracks, scuffs, peeling, color fading, torn seams, and structural issues across sofas, sectionals, recliners, ottomans, and more. We work on leather furniture throughout New Jersey and match colors and finishes as closely as the original so repairs blend seamlessly.
Leather jackets develop character as they age - but some damage needs a professional hand. Ripped seams, broken zippers, torn lining, worn elbows, panel cracks -we've repaired all of it. Our leather jacket repair service handles everything from quick single-fix jobs to full restoration, getting your most-worn piece back to where it can keep doing what it does best.
Purse Repair
Handbags and purses take more daily punishment than almost any other leather item - handles that weaken, zippers that fail, straps that break, linings that tear. Offer comprehensive restoration for bags of all types and brands, from everyday leather totes to high-end designer pieces. Whether it's a broken strap, a worn zipper, or a lining in need of replacement, our craftsmen will restore it properly.
Not everything we do is a repair. Lebanon Leather Work is also a destination for beautifully made leather goods -crafted to order, built to last, and designed around exactly what you want. Choose your leather type, color, hardware, dimensions, and finishing details and we'll create something that doesn't exist anywhere else. We work with individuals, designers, and businesses on custom leather pieces of every kind.
Our Leather Repair & Restoration Services
We offer a comprehensive range of leather repair services -from quick, same-day fixes to full multi-week restorations. Every repair is assessed individually, quoted transparently, and executed by our own craftsmen from start to finish.
No outsourcing. No shortcuts.
-
Broken, seized, or worn-out zippers are one of the most common - and most fixable - leather bag problems. We replace zippers on handbags, shoulder bags, clutches, wallets, luggage, and jackets using YKK and equivalent quality hardware matched to the original in size, color, and mechanism.
We also replace snaps, rivets, magnetic clasps, turn-locks, D-rings, and carabiner clips. If it fastens, we can fix it.
-
Cracked, broken, or fraying straps and handles compromise both the look and structural integrity of your bag. We repair existing straps where possible reinforcing stress points, re-stitching anchor points, and conditioning the leather back to flexibility. When damage is too extensive, we craft replacement straps from matching or complementary leather using original hardware where possible.
We work on all strap types: single and double handles, adjustable crossbody straps, chain-and-leather combos, and backpack-style shoulder straps.
-
Dirt, oil, salt stains, and neglect dry leather out and accelerate cracking. Our professional leather cleaning service removes surface and embedded grime using pH-balanced, leather-safe cleaners - followed by a deep conditioning treatment that restores moisture, suppleness, and flexibility to the hide.
This service is often the starting point for more complex repairs and is also available as a standalone maintenance treatment for bags that are structurally sound but look tired. Regular conditioning extends the life of leather goods by years. -
Faded, scuffed, or unevenly worn leather loses its visual appeal long before it loses its structural integrity. Our color restoration service uses professional- grade leather dyes and pigments to match and restore faded areas, even out color inconsistencies, and refresh the finish of worn pieces.
We can restore original color, darken to a complementary shade, or - for clients who want a full transformation - re-dye an entire piece in a new color. All color work is finished with a protective sealant to extend longevity.
-
Broken or unraveling stitching isn't just cosmetic - it's a structural failure that will get worse without intervention. We re-stitch seams, reinforce stress points, and replace decorative topstitching using thread matched to the original in weight, color, and twist direction.
Common stitching repairs include corner seam splits, handle-to-body attachment points, gusset failures, and zip-line stitching. We use hand-stitching techniques for repairs on fine goods and machine stitching for structural work where durability is the priority.
-
A worn, torn, or stained interior lining makes a beautiful bag unpleasant to use. We remove and replace interior linings on handbags, tote bags, clutches, and wallets - using premium fabric linings matched to the original in weight and texture or upgraded to a material of your choice.
Lining replacement is also an opportunity to add or modify interior organization: adding card slots, pocket dividers, or D-ring attachments for keyholders.
-
Our most comprehensive repair offering. Full reconditioning combines cleaning, conditioning, structural repair, color restoration, hardware replacement, and re-stitching into a single end-to-end service designed to bring a heavily worn piece back as close to original condition as the leather will allow.
This service is ideal for heirloom pieces, vintage finds, and high-value designer goods that deserve more than surface-level care. We'll assess the piece, outlineexactly what's involved, and provide a full itemized quote before any work begins.

Full-grain, top-grain, and genuine leather are the three main grades of real leather - differing significantly in quality, durability, and long-term appearance. Full grain is the highest quality; genuine leather is the lowest, despite its name.
Full-grain leather -highest quality
Cut from the outermost layer of the hide, retaining its natural grain and surface texture. The most durable leather available - it develops a rich patina over time and naturally resists moisture. Used in premium bags, wallets, and footwear. Expected lifespan: 20–50+ years.
Top-grain leather - mid to high quality
The surface is sanded or buffed to remove natural blemishes, giving a smooth, uniform finish. Slightly thinner and more pliable than full grain, but less durable long-term. The most widely used leather in mid-to-high range goods. Expected lifespan: 10–20 years.
Genuine leather - lowest real leather grade
Made from lower-quality hide layers left after the top layers are removed. More affordable but significantly less durable - tends to peel and crack within 3-5 years of regular use. Despite the word "genuine," this is the lowest quality of real leather, and the label can be misleading to buyers.
Bottom line: For durable, long-lasting leather goods, always choose full-grain or top-grain leather. "Genuine leather" does not indicate high quality.

In the overwhelming majority of cases, leather repair is worth it. Quality leather - on furniture, in car interiors, on saddles, and on leather goods -is built to last decades. Replacing it costs 3-10x more than repairing it, produces landfill waste, and often results in inferior replacement materials. Our Restore, Don't Replace philosophy is not marketing. It is the honest answer: a professionally repaired leather piece is stronger at the repaired point than it was before the damage, and it will outlast any replacement. The only case where replacement makes more sense than repair is when leather is so extensively damaged across its entire surface that restoration cost exceeds 70–80% of replacement cost. We will tell you that upfront if it applies.
